It presents a responsive and user-friendly interactive map that promptly alerts users to approaching storms, complemented by credible real-time audio and text notifications from the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network. Leveraging Baron’s proprietary storm tracking algorithms alongside expert analysis from meteorologists, the app ensures access to the most current information regarding potential weather hazards.

Users can review the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center, assess whether their location falls within an evacuation zone, determine if they are at risk from storm surges, or consult a preparedness checklist for weather emergencies. With Florida Storms, users are equipped with comprehensive information, reducing the need for multiple applications during severe weather events.

Whether monitoring routine thunderstorms or preparing for a major hurricane, Florida Storms provides a concise and reliable source of timely weather insights. The platform aids in making informed decisions to safeguard yourself and your property.

<li>Live radio stream from the nearest Florida Public Radio Emergency Network station, with options to select from twelve additional stations across the state for wider coverage during evacuations or travel.</li>
<li>Push notifications from diverse sources such as the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center, Baron’s Doppler radar, and local emergency management authorities.</li>
<li>The capability to set up customized alerts for multiple locations, including vacation homes or evacuation destinations.</li>
<li>Interactive real-time maps displaying high-resolution radar, lightning activity, future radar projections, satellite imagery, hurricanes, and forecast models.</li>
<li>An innovative feature called “The feeds,” which filters live data streams from official agencies such as the nearest National Weather Service office, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center, Florida Department of Transportation, FPREN Storm Center, and local emergency agencies.</li>
<li>An accessible resource for storm preparedness education, outlining procedural steps before, during, and after weather emergencies.</li>
<li>Regular updates from certified meteorologists via Facebook Live videos and blog content, offering expert insights and guidance.</li>
</ul>

The application is completely free to download and is developed collaboratively by the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network in partnership with the University of Florida and Baron Critical Weather Intelligence. Current updates from the Storm Center are provided by qualified meteorologists affiliated with the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. Additional information can be accessed through local Florida public radio station websites or broadcasts.

Participating affiliate stations include WUWF (Pensacola), WFSU (Tallahassee), WKGC (Panama City), WUFT (Gainesville), WJCT (Jacksonville), WMFE (Orlando), WMNF/WUSF (Tampa-St. Petersburg), WFIT (Melbourne), WQCS (Fort Pierce), WGCU (Fort Myers), WDNA & WLRN (Miami), along with multiple repeater stations across the state.
